Peritoneal dialysis?related peritonitis as a risk factor for cardiovascular events
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Infection known to increase risk cardiovascular events (CVE); however, no studies have examined association between PD peritonitis and CVE. Aim To examine as a factor for CVE Methods This retrospective cohort study included all adults undertaking ?3 months one Australian health district from 2001 2015. Baseline characteristics event information was obtained New Zealand Dialysis Transplant registry. The Centre Health Research Illawarra Shoalhaven Population facilitated data linkage using ICD10 coding capture information. Results A total 211 patients included, with median age 66 years (interquartile range 54.49–74.45); 64% were male. Peritonitis occurred 114 (54%) 65 (30.8%) experienced Identified factors included: cerebrovascular (hazard ratio (HR) 2.72, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.36–5.47), diabetes (HR 2.41, CI 1.47–3.96), coronary artery 1.67, 1.01–2.77) 1.03, 1.01–1.06). There significant following 1.37, 0.81–2.32, P = 0.24), even when accounting age, disease, existing 1.32, 0.78–2.23, 0.30). Conclusions We did not find an episode result may be due small sample size or rapid treatment mitigating risk.

Higher Peritoneal Protein Clearance as a Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease in Peritoneal Dialysis Patient
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Although a number of studies have been published on peritoneal protein clearance (PrCl) and its association with patient outcomes, the results have been inconsistent. Therefore, the intent of this study was to evaluate the impact of PrCl on cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. METHODS This prospective observational study included...
متن کاملPasteurella species peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis: Household pets as a risk factor
BACKGROUND Pasteurella species are Gram-negative coccobacilli that are a part of the normal oropharyngeal flora of numerous domestic animals. They have been recognized as a rare but significant cause of peritonitis in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). A consensus about management strategies for PD-associated peritonitis caused by Pasteurella species currently does not exist. METHO...
متن کاملMetabolic Syndrome as a Risk Factor for Osteoarthritis
Metabolic syndrome refers to a set of conditions that include high blood pressure, increased insulin level in the blood, the accumulation of the excess fat around the abdomen, and increased blood lipids. In metabolic syndrome, the vast majority of these conditions are simultaneously present, and the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and diabetes rises. Besides, osteoarthritis or degen...
متن کاملCalcific aortic valve damage as a risk factor for cardiovascular events
Aortic valve calcification (AVC) is a common disease of the elderly. It is a progressive disease ranging from mild valve thickening to severe calcification with aortic valve stenosis. Risk factors for AVC are similar to those for atherosclerosis: age, gender, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, hypertension, smoking and renal failure. AVC shares many similarities to atherosclerosis, including infla...
